Enjoying Harborfest

Harborfest is on, and I spent the morning on Long Wharf enjoying some of its delights. The Boy Scouts were grilling hot dogs, Pierson Middle School students were singing karaoke, and the little kids were enjoying a picturesquely situated bouncy castle with a nautical theme. On my way home, I browsed the sidewalk sales, and these half-price drinking straws at Country Lane (I have a newfound love of polka dots) caught my eye. See you at the Whale Boat Races!

Welcome Back, Old Friends

A little over a month ago, for no reason at all, Sag Harbor Days subscribers with an optonline e-mail address stopped getting my e-mail alerts. I did try to figure out how to fix this problem, but about two minutes in I realized it was beyond me. So I just sort of hoped that the problem would disappear, and yesterday it did. Suddenly, everyone was getting my e-mails again, for no reason at all. Welcome back! And hope to see you at Pierson tonight through Sunday for The Music Man, and off of Main Street this Saturday for HarborFrost, where I'm sure I'll be taking a break from the ice sculpting spectacle to admire this big, beautiful whale-printed whatever-it-is (a sarong? a small table cloth? I want one!) in the window of Matta.

Another Dream Come True

I usually do my shopping on Main Street, but today I drove all the way to B.J.'s in Riverhead with a special purpose: To buy the concession stand candy for the Pierson Middle School musical. I have always wanted to load up a shopping cart with bulk bags of Laffy Taffy and Hershey's Miniatures! I'm storing it all in my scary basement, so I won't be tempted to eat it before opening night on February 3. The show is The Music Man, and it will surely be spectacular. Pierson Middle School Moving Up Day

Just back from the short and sweet 8th grade graduation celebration. The students marched, accepted awards (some signed by President Obama), and mingled with family and friends afterwards, enjoying beautiful baked goods produced in the Pierson cafeteria. Bravo to the graduates and to the pastry chefs.
